With HTTPS now being a standard across all websites, making sure this correctly configured is important.
A website being HTTPS can affect how you appear on search engines such as Google.
The Process
Making Sure SSL is installed Correctly
- First step is to make sure the site has an SSL installed as this is required for HTTPS
- If an SSL is not installed, this will need to be purchased as an add on
Configure Server Environment
Take a database backup
- Incase anything goes wrong I will backup the database before proceeding further
Configure Database
- Update the database, to the configure the site domain to use HTTPS
- Search replace all internal links and images in the database to make sure all permalinks are HTTPS
Modify Config File
- If the domain is configured via a config via, make sure this is updated to HTTPS
Create Redirect Rules
- Make sure all HTTP links redirect to HTTPS links
Test Pages and other site functionality
- Go through a sample of pages to make sure HTTPS is running correctly
- Test all contact forms
- Test admin
- Check for any images/urls with HTTP links hardcoded into a theme
